John Manners

Executive Director

KenSAP’s co-founder and executive director, John was born and educated in the US, but spent part of his childhood in Kenya and returned there as a Peace Corps teacher in the early 1970s. A journalist by profession, he spent 18 years as a writer and editor in various branches of Time Inc., and maintained his connection with Kenya by developing a sideline covering the exploits of its runners. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Harvard University and a Masters Degree from Columbia University.

Managing Director

KenSAP’s new managing director, Alan is an American by birth and a lawyer by training. His law practice handled legal matters for early-stage American technology companies, and on the side Alan helped university students gain admission to top-tier post-graduate programs and institutions. Recruited by KenSAP alumnus and board member Kipyegon Kitur to work with Professor Boit on a couple of Kenyan education initiatives, Alan made several extended visits to Kenya in 2015 and 2016. He formally joined KenSAP last year. Alan holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and a Bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Michigan.
